People have been using fashion to make statements since the beginning of time, and celebrities are no exception. These stars have used their clothing choices to send out messages that sometimes have landed them in hot water. From insane red carpet outfits to political statements, celebs use every opportunity to make their voices heard but they are also sometimes a huge misstep.

From Melania Trump's tone-deaf "I Really Don't Care. Do U?" jacket, to Kanye West's "Make America Great Again" hat and plenty of stars who have been accused of cultural appropriation for using other people's culture as a costume. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether famous people don't think about their impact on people or if they purposely wear scandalous things to cause a reaction out of people and get our attention.

Chiquis Rivera also found herself in quite the sticky situation when an uplifting message on her jacket about Mexico was misconstrued by her Spanish-speaking fans. To celebrate Mexico's independence day, the singer wore a jacket that said "Mexico is the s--t" but some people who did a literal translation to Spanish saw it as an insult.

It's understandable why her fans were upset, even though she meant no harm. It is an example that, although we all have the right to have freedom of expression, sometimes celebrities have to be extra careful when choosing what type of clothing they wear in public so that they don't offend anyone.

Chiquis Rivera made her Spanish-speaking Mexican followers furious with this jacket. 1

While the singer meant to celebrate her country on its independence day, her fans in Mexico were completely angered thinking that the jacket meant that the country is "the sh*t" was an insult and not a positive thing. The message got lost in translation. Yikes!

The reality TV stars launched a line of T-shirts for their Kendall + Kylie clothing line, in which the images of iconic music stars like Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. were used. They had to quickly pull them down from their website after backlash and accusations of cultural appropriation. Biggie's mom, Voletta Wallace, addressed the controversy on Instagram and said: "I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this.  The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt.  This is disrespectful , disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!"

Kylie also angered fans in 2016 when she wore a Selena T-shirt. 8

She posted the photo on Instagram and a fan commented saying she was using the singer as a costume. "White people like Kylie Jenner wear images of powerful Latina women as an accessory, simply because Selena's image is 'in' right now," user royalsapphire wrote in the comments. "Selena's image is representative of popular Chicana culture, something that she knows nothing about. She tries to look/dress like us simply because that's the fashion right now. She doesn't know of our struggle."
