How many shoes is too many? (PHOTOS)
I have to confess something: I have a pretty serious addiction that takes up a large amount of time and money. It's not something that I'm necessarily proud of but I've spent the better part of the last decade cultivating this addiction.
Yes, it's about shoes. I am absolutely addicted to buying shoes (that's just a fraction of what I own, in the photo).
It's a problem that crept up on me very slowly until suddenly, one day, I found myself the owner of over 100 pairs of heels, wedges, flats, sandals, boots and everything in between. The big issue, though? I hardly ever wear any of them!

I know, I know: that's positively crazy. I am a complete shoe lover and yet I barely take my babies out for a spin.
It may be an addiction that started with far too many Sex and the City episodes and the dream of wanting to be a sophisticated New York City-dwelling woman, but despite my love of shoes and, in particular, high-heeled shoes, I rarely find them comfortable.
So what's a girl to do?
Apparently this girl's solution is to keep on buying. I'll go through times of serious shoe-purging, followed by a brief period of relief, until a new season strikes and I find myself eyeing the store windows like a hungry bear after a winter in hibernation.

Slowly but surely, I've started to try to cut back. I've also made a bigger effort to buy more comfy easy-to-wear shoes, whether that means flats or a color that will actually go with most things in my closet, I find my addiction getting a little better.
I've also adopted a new policy of wearing flats on the way to work or an event and then changing into my fancier footwear. Sure, it sometimes annoyingly requires me to carry a big purse filled only with my wallet, cellphone and shoes, but it turns out to be worth it in the end.
Like when I wore my bright colored 4" heel summer sandals and got compliments on them all day. Yes, that made me happy. The same way that buying hot pink sandals and bright coral wedges in the last week of August, despite the declining warm weather, made me happy.
So how many shoes is too many? I simply don't know. But I do know that I'll never stop collecting them. Throughout the years, some may come and some may go, but true love--the love of shoes, that is--is forever. Even if it's a bit of an addiction, too.
