We are just always amazed after hearing about some crazy places moms have been forced to give birth! The latest one happened in the L'Enfant Plaza Metro in Washington D.C. where a 23-year-old mommy-to-be gave birth on a train platform! Shavonnte Taylor had been on her way to an obstetrician's appointment when she started having contractions. She wasn't expecting to go into labor until another two weeks, but her baby boy wanted out!

Ideally she didn't want to have give birth on the station platform, but he left her no choice. Lucky for her medical assitance was nearby!

The Washington Post reports that Autumn Manka, a licensed emergency medical technician, came to Taylor's aid when she saw she needed help. Like a true professional Manka made sure that the baby received the proper care as he was being delivered.

Surprisingly, trains still went in and out of the station as Taylor gave birth. Although Amir's birth in a dark area of the platform next to a broken escalator wasn't ideal, he was healthy and that's all that mattered to the mom. The mother-son duo were then transported to a hospital, but Taylor got an even nicer gift from the metro station.

The transit agency sent her a gift basket complete with a $100 gift card and other items relating to the metro. She was even congratulated in a note from the general manager.

Wow, this mom was so brave giving birth the way she did. I don't know how I would have reacted had I been in her shoes, but I'm glad someone was nearby to assist her. It's cute that the transit company ended up sending her gifts too, but it was a plus that they handled the situation professionally. I'm sure Amir is going to love this story when he's old enough to hear it!
