Snooki's superstitious refusal to talk about her pregnancy proves she's Latina

In news I'm sure you've been waiting for with baited breath--Jersey Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is reportedly pregnant.

I'm not really sure how this happened between all of the fist bumping and shot taking, but apparently it has. Why do we even care about this you might be wondering? Well, little Snooki is actually 100% Chilean, but was adopted as an infant by an Italian American family, so she considers herself Italian. Although in one interesting episode when asked if she was White, she responded, "No, I'm Tan." so maybe she sorta, kinda acknowledges her ethnicity. Ok, fine, that was a, back to the baby news!

TMZ is reporting that the only reason the lovable little guidette denied, denied, denied her pregnancy earlier this month was because she is actually taking the situation (no, not that Situation) very seriously and was superstitious about revealing the news before her first trimester was done.

Um, hello Latina! She may not really feel connected to her Chilean roots, but homegirl is definitely embracing this very Latin tradition of keeping mum on the baby news until you are three months along.

But there may be more than superstition at stake here. The NY Post reports that Snooki is also hoping to make some serious moolah with the big baby reveal and word on the street is that US Weekly was the highest bidder. The baby's father is Snooki's boyfriend Jionni LaValle.

So, I have to admit, I watch Jersey Shore. I think it's hysterical, but this season was starting to get downright depressing. When Pauly and Mike had their birthday parties and I realized with a startled gasp that they were my age (ie 30), I was like, "WHAT?! Grow UP already dudes!"

The news that Snooki is preggos is cute and happy to me. I'm sure MTV is flipping out about it since she JUST started shooting her spinoff with her bestie Jenni "JWoww" Farley, but they will figure it out. Jionni seems to be as supportive of a boyfriend as a little meatball maniac like Snooki can find--no really, he's a nice, normal guy--and Jenni is seriously a ride-or-die best friend, so this could be a good environment for her all around.

I know I'll be tuning in to see all the ups and downs of her pregnancy on this new show, that's for sure! So maybe MTV should stop freaking out about their cash cow (no Snooks, I'm NOT calling you fat) and try to make a show about a single, working girl becoming a mom for the first time. THAT could actually be super interesting and show us all another side of these wacky party guidettes.

What do you think about Snooki being pregnant? Do you think she is responsible enough to have a kid?
