I love the fact that my Gringo and I have different talents and interests that complement each other. I would definitely not qualify myself as a natural athlete nor a sports enthusiast. My husband on the other hand is athletic and an avid enthusiast of all sports. Over the years, he has taught me a great deal about the importance of having our kids participate in athletic activities. And I truly appreciate the amazing benefits of playing sports such as health, building strong characters, learning to work with and sacrifice for others and more.
However, I feel that as a society we have become excessive about our commitment to sports! Lately I've been seeing the negative effects of this obsession with sports and athletic abilities.Continue Reading >
Every mom with more than one kid is familiar with that slightly nervous feeling that comes along with introducing a new baby into your eldest child's life. After all, you never how they're going to react! Are they going to be jealous? Sad? Angry? But one lucky mom, Ilana Wiles, doesn't have to worry about any of that, as evidenced by the adorable video she just shared of her two little girls.Continue Reading >
This year my daughter started elementary school and the next thing I knew it was time for my first parent-teacher conference. WHOA! How did that happen so quickly? I'm not gonna lie, I was nervous. I guess that is not surprising, but what was surprising to me was that at first I was nervous for myself, not my kid. What the heck does one wear to a parent-teacher conference that conveys, I'm a responsible parent with a sense of style who isn't trying too hard? Heck if I know, honestly I can't even tell you what I wore because I don't remember. But I do remember how terrifying I found the experience.Continue Reading >
The most important thing you can do if you're raising bilingual kids is expose them to as much Spanish as possible as often as possible. The truth is that the more they hear the language, the more they'll pick up new vocabulary and pronunciation. While you may think that's only possible at home or at school, there are a few things you can do in your own neighborhood to expose your children to even more Spanish.Continue Reading >
When your kids are climbing up the walls and about to drive you nuts, corraling them for a walk or a trip to the park is a great way to decompress--and tire them out! But what's a mom to do when the temperatures are near freezing and the great outdoors is no longer so appealing? Well, you can hide in a corner until bedtime, or you can come up with a few fun ways to kill all that time spent indoors. Here are some of my favorites to get you started:
It's no secret that feeding a toddler is one of the most frustrating aspects of parenting a small child. Sometime after their first birthdays, tots begin to not only have real opinions about what and when they want something, but they also begin to impose their own will through mealtime interactions. Even kids who aren't picky at all can be difficult during meals and snacks, which makes sense since a great porportion of their waking hours are spent at a table. But dont' stress--here are six tips to end mealtime battles:Continue Reading >
Last week, actress Gwyneth Paltrow made headlines when it was reported that she urges her children--daughter Apple, who is 9, and son Moses, who is 7--to speak only in Spanish. Paltrow learned Spanish herself when she was a teenager and is trying to make sure both her kids grow up bilingual too because it's obvious she knows the benefits of bilingualism first-hand.
And she's not the only famous parent out there doing so ...Continue Reading >
Two brothers recently took it upon themselves to make their mom's 55th birthday extra special by giving her a present she'll definitely never forget. Instead of giving her just any regular ol' gift, they decided to take a trip into the past and visit some of their favorite childhood spots, recreating some hilarious family photos for her along the way! And trust me when I say, the results are a must-see.Continue Reading >
I just read something that has left me quite disturbed. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of children who have undergone plastic surgery has increased 30 percent in the last decade ... and the reason is difficult to swallow.Continue Reading >
A post written on a South Dakota mom's blog has quickly gone viral after she criticized those she considers to be overprotective parents and called for kids that are being bullied to "toughen up." Since first publishing it three weeks ago, the piece, entitled "Why My Kids Are NOT The Center Of My World," has stirred up tons of controversy online and amassed millions of hits--despite that her blog originally only had eight followers!Continue Reading >
