Anyone that knows me, knows I'll go through great lengths for a perfectly smooth and frizz-free blowout. I've made appointments after work for crying out loud! But during the warm weather season I don't always have the time, the money or the patience to sit at a salon for thirty minutes or more for an extra sleek and long-lasting blowout. But how the heck can you avoid the poof and frizz that comes with blow drying your hair at home (during the summer)? Especially for us chicas with naturally curly hair!Continue Reading >
I don't know what's been going on with my skin, but lately I've experiencing more manchas than I'd like to admit. I swear dark spots are even worse than pimples themselves. They're the skin problem from hell! And I used to think you could only get them from picking at your pimples, but that's not really the cause. These things appear no matter what!
So I have a confession to make: I suck at painting my own nails. You heard me--I'm horrible! I might be obsessed with all things beauty and have a drawer filled with every nail polish shade imaginable, but that doesn't mean I actually know what I'm doing. In fact, I haven't had polish on my nails in god knows how long because between my super busy schedule and my tight budget, getting my nails done at the salon every other week isn't really an option for me right now. And you already know I can't paint them myself. That is, unless I want to look like a toddler gave me a manicure. So what's a girl to do?
Curly Q: I've been hearing so much about protein treatments lately and how they're amazing for repairing damaged curly hair. But I can't seem to find one within my budget. Are they any all-natural protein treatments out there I can try at home?Continue Reading >
It's that time of year when we have to start showing off our legs again. If you laid off using a razor this winter, then you know you're overdue for some maintenance. Popular hair removal brand Veet decided to promote just that during their latest campaign ads. Except it wasn't as well received as they'd liked because it ended up offending women everywhere.
Why? Let's just say it had something to do with comparing them to a man...Continue Reading >
Salma Hayek is one hot mama! She's aged so gracefully you'd never guess she's 47 years old. Seriously, look at that flawless face! There's not a wrinkle or blemish in sight. So what's this Mexicana's secret for maintaining her youthful glow? Believe it or not, it's simply accepting the unavoidable aging process!Continue Reading >
My fiance thinks I'm obsessed with having my picture taken. Every time we're out and about, I have him snapping away (especially if I have on a cute new outfit!). But what he doesn't get is that it takes a few takes before I finally find a shot that actually flatters me. I can be having the best hair day ever, my makeup could be flawless and my outfit on point, and somehow the camera still finds a way to highlight my most pesky imperfections. It drives me nuts!Continue Reading >
Spring is here and I bet you're dying to book your first pedi of the season, right? I hear ya! But before you do that there's a few things you might want to know first. Unfortunately, with every professional pedicure comes a ton of potential hazardous health risks, like nail fungus, infections and other nasty stuff. The safest way to go about it is of course doing your own toes at home, but if you paint your nails worse than a 3-year-old (like me for instance) here's a few ways you can avoid having a professional pedi disaster!
Step away from the flat iron, girl! If parting from your hair straightening tools is still a non-negotiable situation, take a lesson from me. I used to be obsessed with flat-ironing my thick curly hair straight and when I wasn't doing that, I was abusing the curling iron until my once gorgeous curls turned limp and lifeless. Now I'm suffering from something called heat-damage where the roots of my hair are super curly and the ends are a combination of waves and straight pieces. Not a good situation to be in--trust me!
Acne is a common skin issue that affects teens, adults, and even pregnant women! I know when I was younger I thought once I became an adult that it would go away. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and I learned the dreadful truth about adult acne. It could be hormonal or caused by external factors when flare ups appear on your face.
The good news is you can reduce their reoccurences if you fix your diet. Make sure you have this list handy the next time you go grocery shopping!Continue Reading >
