Shakira wants to raise Sasha & Milan to be "modern men"

shakira and kids milan and sashaShakira is letting us know exactly what kind of mother she is--a badass one. The Colombian star is hands on with her sons, 3-year-old Milan and 3-month-old Sasha, and knows exactly how she wants to raise them. In an interview with Parents Latina magazine, Shakira shares that she doesn't plan on raising machista sons and hope her boys grow up to be "modern men." I love Shakira's mission and her explanation for breaking certain cultural traditions that hold us back.

If it's up to Shakira, she won't be raising machista boys. Honestly, it's 2015 and that male superiority complex really needs to be shut down. What better time than to do it when they're still developing and learning social dynamics from their parents.

Shakira says, "Growing up with a working mom is a start. I also think their dad is a good example of a modern man to emulate." Gerard Piqué also helps her teach her boys that men are as much involved in the household as women. "Gerard and I pretty much share all parenting responsibilities, although I'm definitely the disciplinarian," she adds.

I love that she's making a conscious effort to co-parent in such a positive way. With celebrities, it can be easy to just pass your child to a nanny and continue on with your normal routine. You can tell Shakira isn't that type of famous mom. She really cares and wants to be involved with the daily parenting. She's also very aware of what her children will start learning from her at an early age.

Shakira reveals that Spanish is the first language spoken in her house and it's what Milan speaks fluently. She says, "Since I'm the one he spends the most time with and it's my first language. I talk to him as much as possible--it serves as bonding time and helps his language-comprehension skills."

It sounds like Shakira wants to raise strong, modern and smart children just like the rest of us! Who knew we had so much in common, right?
