My husband has always joked that men were not made to be faithful. Lots of men--especially those who cheat--claim the same thing saying they're hard-wired to be anything but monogamous. For decades, humans have believed that sexual selection makes men naturally promiscuos and women naturally choosy based on a 1948 experiment with fruit flies know as "Bateman's Principle." But now, a new study is saying there are problems with that evolutionary theory.

Researchers have replicated Bateman's experiment using today's technology and have discovered his methodology was flawed. Therefore, they've determined there is no existing evidence that men are hard-wired to be unfaithful.

I honestly don't give a hoot what any of these studies say. I think they're just all cheap excuses for cheating. Even though I've already confessed I'm not really the super jealous kind, I don't think I'd be able to tolerate a cheating husband. As I've said in the past, I'm not really interested in being with somebody who can't commit and doesn't respect our relationship enough to want to stay faithful.

On occasion, I have wondered how I would actually react to news that my husband had been unfaithful. My immediate reaction is to say that I wouldn't be able to forgive him. Mostly because I'd have such a hard time trusting him again.

It always surprises me when I hear of couples who decided to forgive, forget and move forward. I know everyone makes mistakes, but this is one of those I'd be very hard pressed to forget--regardless of how men are supposedly wired or what some study says he should be doing.
