There's no denying that intimacy suffers when you become a new mom, especially the first few weeks (or even months). At least, that's what happened to me. Besides being more tired than I've ever been in my life, my first pregnancy ended up in an unplanned C-section, which meant the last thing I wanted was to be touched... by anybody! Plus, my baby slept in our room the first four months of her life. Even though she rarely slept in the same bed with us since she had a cradle right next to me, her presence was inescapable, and that just made me pretty uncomfortable when it came to having sex.

That's why I can't imagine, not even for a second, having sex with my husband while our infant was sleeping in our bed, as one third of Swedish couples do, according to a study. How crazy is that?

I'm sorry, but there's just no way either my husband or I would've been able to do that. I know that my daughter would've had no idea of what was going on, but just thinking about the whole thing makes me super uncomfortable.

It's undeniable that sex is not only enjoyable as well as needed for a couple to stay happy and satisfied, but if I'd chosen to co-sleep, you better believe I would've come up with other ways of satisfying my needs. It might not be a big deal for other people, but for me, sex is super intimate and even though we're talking about my own newborn child, I have no interest in her being present in my bed while I'm having sex. There's just something off with that.

Even though the Swedish women in the study are probably happier since their having more sex than I did after I became a new mom, they too complain that they want more and better sex since doing it while your infant is in bed with you means quickies and no crazy positions!
