Well, this is an interesting way to potentially meet the love of your life. A Spanish dating association in Candeleda, Spain, bussed in women from the city of Madrid to meet the village bachelors in hopes of boosting the population and ending an apparent bridal shortage in the area.

The town of about 6,000 has reportedly been facing dwindling population due to Spain's financial crisis and resident's growing attraction to city life and career. The organization, Ascamu, was set up to help re-populate by organizing parties for single men and women. Their latest attempt is this bussing idea, which transported 68 women into the town for a weekend gathering in which they could dance, flirt and essentially check out the village's single men.

But the best part? The whole plan was apparently inspired by a Hollywood western movie. Nope, I'm not kidding.

Sigh. I'm not even sure how to process this. Don't these people know that movie plots never, ever work in real life? Plus, the whole idea of moving women from one place to another like cattle in order to help them find a mate is kind of disturbing. Somehow it seems totally different to me meeting someone in that way than meeting someone at a bar. Maybe because the whole thing is arranged by others to essentially force social interaction -- it's like a middle school dance but with adults and elderly people. Weird!

On the other hand, according to one of the participants, these meetings have actually led to marriages before! And that's pretty amazing if you think about it. I mean, if either person hadn't participated in the party, they most likely would never have met since they didn't even live in the same city. That means this meet-and-greet led them to the love of their live–which actually does sound like a Hollywood film.

What do you think of this idea?

I don't see it any different than anyother singles party type of function...this time they are providing transportation! I think its a great idea for the citys economic andsocial needs! Its a form to bring people together..I guess when you think of it as a herd of women referred to as cattle then it does give ita different tone. I guess its just how you look at it.
