Stay-at-home Latina mom wins a trip to SPACE! (VIDEO)
This gives the saying 'Give me space' a whole new meaning! Mercedes Becerra, a stay-at-home mom of three from Paso Robles, California, has won the trip of a lifetime. The Latina never boarded a plane up until 3 years ago, and now will be heading into space. You read that right--SPACE.
It's a huge change from her everyday duties which she says include preparing meals for her kids, Johnny, Gabriel, and Aliya, taking them to school, along with other mommy related tasks. While being a stay-at-home mom isn't always the easiest of jobs, I'm sure she is more than happy to trade that role up for astronaut any day!

The suburban mom earned the grand prize through a contest held by the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. The cast made an appearance at last month's Comic Con where the show was celebrating the season finale. The episode featured one of their main characters blasting off into space and in honor of its end, the show's producers decided to grant one fan the same opportunity.
Engineering company X Core Aerospace teamed up with the show for the giveaway-- and Becerra turned out to be the lucky attendee selected to take this once in a lifetime journey. The lucky mom will be sent into orbit in 2 years and the trip will last all of 45 minutes (during which she'll be launched at mind-numbing speed into the atmosphere). Becerra hopes her daughter, Aliya, learns something from her experience as well. "I want to tell my daughter that just because you're a girl doesn't mean you can't do things," she says in the video.

That's a great message to send your kids, but I'm sure this Cali mom is looking forward to spending time away from her parental duties and checking out something quite extraordinary. While I'm not a mom yet, that would be quite an excellent getaway--even if it lasts just 45 minutes. Maybe for my next birthday when my parents ask me what I want, I'll request a trip to the outskirts of our universe.
Would you ever want to visit outerspace if given the opportunity or would you be too scared to do so?
