No Mother's Day for me and I'm totally fine with it (VIDEO)

I've never really cared for celebrations like Mother's Day because I think that mamás should be celebrated each and every single day. I don't like the commercial feel of this celebration and I certainly don't care to be given a material gift when sleeping in will do. That's why when I heard that nearly 360,000 women die each year from preventable problems during pregnancy or childbirth, I knew I'd have no problems accepting the invitation from Every Mother Counts and not celebrating Mother's Day in an act of solidarity to get people talking about this unacceptable situation.

I was floored when I learned that 90 percent of the deaths associated with complications during pregnancy and childbirth are preventable. It just doesn't make any sense and it makes me feel like I have no right to celebrate being a mom on Mother's Day when so many other women are denied the same privilege.

So on May 13 I will celebrate No Mother's Day by choosing to disappear. There will be no status updates, no opening gifts and no answering phone calls. Luckily, I don't really care for any of that anyway, so this shouldn't be hard.

I urge you to join me and do the same, even if you think it'll be something extremely difficult for you to do. If so, just try to imagine those poor women who, like you, were excited and looking forward to becoming mothers but ended up dead instead. Think about all those children that have been left without mothers because they died while pregnant or during childbirth.

One thousand women alone will die just on Mother's Day. This is unacceptable and we need to take a stand. So please make sure you share this video after you watch it. Let's show the world the power of mothers!

Would you be willing to NOT celebrate Mother's Day for this cause?
