Kristin Marie jones, nannyIn Portland, Oregon, a 23-year-old nanny Kristin Marie Jones plead not guilty ona whole slew of very serious charges, all stemming from one incident recently. Jones allegedly left two very small children, a 3-year-old boy and a 2-month-old girl, alone inside of a minivan on a 90-degree day with the windows rolled up while she went into a tanning salon to get her tan on.

Okay, so never mind that fact that she wasn't supposed to be driving in the first place and never mind the fact that she was their nanny and left in charge of these children's welfare and safety, never mind that it was 90 degrees outside and she left them in the car with the windows rolled up--the craziest thing is that she left two babies ALONE in the car. Anything could have happened to them! They very easily could have been stolen or died from the heat.

Luckily, a concerned citizen called the police when they saw the kids alone in the minivan, screaming and sweating in the sweltering heat. When the officer grabbed the little boy out of the van, he said he could feel the heat radiating off the child through his bulletproof vest. People don't even leave their dogs in the car in that kind of heat, not even with the windows cracked. What kind of idiot would leave a child in that heat?

I've never left my kids with a babysitter when they were small unless it was family.  I still don't. Only now, I feel more comfortable leaving them because they are old enough to steer clear of danger and tell on people. I was raised to take my children with me or leave them with abuelita or a tía, but never a stranger.

My parents never left us with anyone, unless it was family, and since becoming a mom, I have a general distrust in anyone ever being able to care for my children the way that I do. Let's face it, there are a lot of crazy people in the world and no one is going to care for my children like me.

I can say one thing on this matter: a caregiver who betrays the trust of a child and the parent who entrusted them with that baby deserves whatever ass whipping (metaphorically, legally or literally) that they get. As a parent, I have a lot of tolerance for a lot of stuff in the world, but if you put my child in danger, you have taken your life into your own hands because I will hurt you if you hurt my child. By leaving those kids alone in that hot car alone with no air, she may as well have left them playing with a loaded gun because it was just as dangerous.

If I were Kristin Marie Jones, I'd take my tanned self into hiding because if that was my kid, I'd be looking to find her and lock her ass in a car on a 90-degree day to see how she liked it.

I would have tied her up, and hung her in the scourching sun for a couple of hours, with nothing o but her under clothes. She would have gotten really tanned, on top of the tan, she went to get.
