hot tubA Missouri mom who appeared topless in a hot tub photo alongside her 14-year-old daughter was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment after it was circulated via social media. The mother's name is being withheld to protect the minor, but it was taken via the app Snapchat by her other 13-year-old daughter.

If you aren't familiar with the app, it's supposed to erase the image within 10 seconds of being sent. Unfortunately in this case, the image was caught long enough to get a screenshot by one friend and it was spread to two different high schools in the area.

Police claim there were "sexual overtones" in the images of the mother and daughter, both topless, but the woman claims it was purely innocent. "I wasn't posing, I was getting out of the tub," the mom told KMOV news. But police aren't buying her story and say she was posing for the picture.

"The issue here is the fact the daughter was 14 and the mother was clearly present and involved when the photo was taken," said prosecutor Tim Lohmar. The mother defended herself and said she knew the picture was taken by her other daughter but told her to immediately delete it. Instead she sent it to classmates who spread the controversial image around.

Lohmar says he doesn't think the mom had bad intentions but that she used bad judgment when choosing to pose for the picture. If she is found guilty, the unidentified mother can face up to a year in jail or probation.

This story proves that you can't trust social media! Just because you delete it, doesn't mean that it can't come back to haunt you. In this case I believe her daughter who took the picture is equally at fault because that's incredibly disrespectful. I don't know why she thought it would be a good idea to send such an embarrassing picture around, but I'm sure the mother didn't have any bad intentions. Hopefully this misunderstanding can be cleared up and she won't have to face any jail time.
