Mom dies after emergency C-section & newborn follows 4 days later
On October 16, 28-year-old Christina Barton of Springfield, Oregon was 8 months pregnant when her 9-year-old son, Seth, found her collapsed in the bathroom of their home in Springfield, Oregon. She wasn't breathing. She was rushed to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where an emergency C-section was performed. Her husband, Steven Hunt, tearfully recalls that when doctors told him the baby had a heart beat, but didn't say anything about his wife, he just knew that his wife had died. As a tribute to his wife, Steven named his beautiful baby girl Christina. Sadly, baby Christina was not to be with her father and brother for long.

After four days on life support, baby Christina died. They got to see the baby open her eyes on the first day, but after that her condition declined. Steven says that during the four days that baby Christina was alive, her 9-year-old brother hardly left her side.
Oh you guys, this is so heartbreaking. That baby girl was so BEAUTIFUL. Just a tiny little bundle of beauty. Doctors still don't know what caused the young mother to collapse and die.
Steven says that October 16 was the worst day of his life. And yet, in all this sadness there is some beauty. Steven is amazed by the support he has recieved from his community. He says, "I can't believe there's this much love in the world." A gofundme account has been set up to help the family pay for Christina and the baby's memorial expenses.
As much compassion as I feel for Steven, my heart is truly breaking for his son Seth. That little boy lost his mother and you can just tell from photographs and the news footage that he had fallen deeply in love with his baby sister as well. So much loss at such a young age. There are just no words.
