Government shutdown keeping kids with cancer from life-saving treatment!
While many of us have wasted no time criticizing the childlike behavior of our elected officials that has resulted in the federal government shutting down, truth is most of us won't be really affected by it. Unfortunately, the parents of children with cancer can't say the same thing. That's because their sick children won't be able to register for new and potentially-life saving clinical trials through the National Institutes of Health thanks to the shutdown.

For these cancer patients, the clinical trials are pretty much their last resort as they usually enroll "only when standard medical treatments have failed, and other treatment options are not available. As a result, they have no other alternatives," according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Imagine then being the parent of one of the 10 children per week who'll be left without this option until the shutdown comes to an end. If I was one of them, I'd be furious and even embarrassed to say that I'm a citizen of one of the world's most powerful countries. But I would also be scared out of my mind because, as you probably know, every day that goes by without treatment is critical to a cancer patient.
I wonder how the idiots responsible for the government shutting down would feel if one of their kids had cancer and couldn't get the desperate treatment he needed thanks to their shenanigans. But that would never happen because these kinds of things don't affect them, they have the money and the political power to get what they want.
I pray that this shutdown is resolved as soon as possible so that this sick kids can get the treatment they deserve and that they so desperately need.
