Innocent 3-year-old boy shot in head by neighbor while in his own home
A 3-year-old Brooklyn boy was left fighting for his life on Saturday after a neighbor visiting the child's home reportedly shot him in the head.
According to authorities, Tharell Edward was inside the second-floor Flatbush apartment under the care of a female babysitter when he was allegedly shot by 22-year-old neighbor Akeem Bernard, who was also in the home at the time. The bullet pierced little Tharell's skull, entering through the left side and exiting through the back.
Oh my god...words can't even begin to describe how horrifying this is. What kind of person could do something like that to a young, innocent child?
The boy was rushed to a local hospital and as of Sunday morning, was listed in critical, but stable condition. Meanwhile, Bernard—who maintained that he did not shoot the toddler as he was arrested-- was charged with felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with evidence. More details of the circumstances surrounding the shooting and what exactly led to it have not been released.
Sadly, this is reportedly not the first time Tharell has been seriously injured. A neighbor and friend of the family also revealed that the boy had been mauled by a pitbull earlier this summer and was still recovering from his injuries when he was shot. This poor child! At only 3 years old, he's already experienced more trauma than anyone should ever have to go through in a lifetime.
I don't know what could've possibly driven this man to attack a little boy, but nothing could ever justify purposely hurting a child. I just hope that Bernard gets the punishment he deserves for his heinous crimes. Even more importantly, I pray that Tharell is able to make it through this and that his mother is more cautious about whose care she leaves him under from now on. It sounds to me like this boy can't afford to go sustain any more injuries, and he certainly doesn't deserve to.
