#Slanegirl bullied & hospitalized after sexually explicit photos go viral WORLDWIDE
A teenage girl has been hospitalized after sexually explicit photos of her hit the Internet and quickly went viral.
The girl, who is reportedly 17 years old, was photographed engaging in sexual activity at an Eminem concert at Slane Castle in Ireland on Saturday. One photo (seen censored, above) shows the teenager performing oral sex on a man as he raises his arms. A second picture shows her kissing the same man while a third depicts her giving oral sex to a second man.
The graphic photos exploded on social media, with the hashtag #slanegirl, used mostly to mock the young girl, even trending globally on Twitter on Monday. Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook users also shared the pictures.
According to the Irish Independent, the girl was so devastated she had to be sedated in the hospital on Monday afternoon. And I certainly can't blame her. Can you imagine how horrifying it must be to have pictures like that go GLOBAL?
Irish police are now investigating the incident. If the girl is found to be 17 years old, those who shared the photos could be accused of child pornography and criminal behavior. Some reports are also saying that once the teenager is "medically fit enough to make a formal statement," this case could turn into a sexual assault investigation.
Thankfully, many social media outlets, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, have taken steps to remove images of the girl, banning users and deleting sites that displayed the pictures. Meanwhile, a few decent souls out there actually took to the Internet to defend her, using the hashtag #slanegirlsolidarity.
This whole story honestly makes me feel sick to my stomach. I can't believe that people would be cruel enough to post and circulate these pictures and turn this young girl into some worldwide meme for their own amusement. Whether or not you agree with her actions, she's a human being who doesn't deserve to get treated like some sort of sick joke. It's horrifying that there are people out there who would perpetuate her humiliation, especially considering all those recent cases of teens committing suicide as a result of cyber bullying.
The truth is, we don't know the full story. We don't whether this girl partook in these acts completely willingly or if she was under the influence or what. Regardless, it's no one else's place to judge, particularly when the guy pictured in these photos is being hailed as some sort of hero. I mean, what kind of hypocritical sexism is that? If anything, the people responsible for making this a worldwide trend should be the ones feeling ashamed--not the girl.
I'm glad these social media outlets aren't letting this slide and I hope that those who felt the need to spread the photos are punished in some way. In the meantime, my heart goes out to this poor girl. I just pray that she's getting the support that she needs to get through this.
