Latino teen charged in horrific beating death of his little 7-month-old sister
Unfit parents seem to be the norm to hear about daily, but this awful story involves a teen boy killing his baby sister in their Maryland home. The teen, 14-year-old Johnathan Aguiluz, had been left by his mom, Gloria Yanes, Thursday night to care for his sisters: 7-month-old Larissa and a 3-year-old whose name has not been released.
Yanes left them in his care while she went to work. At one point Larissa had been crying prompting the teen to do the unthinkable, killing her, and leaving even his neighbors shocked. He was charged as an adult with first-degree murder for beating and suffocating his sister to death and has been denied bond.
How a child can do that to their own defenseless sibling is beyond me. A 7-month-old doesn't even understand when it's told to be quiet and Aguiluz took extreme measures to shut her up.

According to police, Aguiluz confessed to that he beat his infant sister leaving her injured and then covering her mouth and nose when she wouldn't stop crying. He then placed her in a car seat until his mother came home. Authorities say in Maryland, teens as young as 14 years old can babysit their siblings under certain circumstances.
Yanes arrived at the home early morning to find that her daughter was unresponsive when she tried feeding her. The infant was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where it was revealed that she had died of asphyxiation.
WJLA-TV says that Child Services is investigating Yanes home for any history of abuse. If the teen is found to be a victim of abuse, he would be charged as a juvenile instead of adult. For now they would not release further information on the case until further investigation is done.
It's absolutely tragic the way this baby died and at the hands of her own brother. This must have been traumatizing and horrifying for the mother, who had no other recourse for child care except to leave the babies in her son's care. I hope police can get to the bottom of this case because it's sad knowing that the baby never got to experience life and by facing extreme charges, her brother lost his life in a way too.
