Losing your kids can drive a parent to do crazy things. That's why I was heartbroken, but not completely shocked, to hear of the Houston, Texas, father who was recently charged with murder after allegedly shooting a drunk driver minutes after he crashed into the dad's truck and killed his two young sons.

31-year-old David Barajas and his two sons, 12-year-old David Jr. and 11-year-old Caleb, were 50 yards from home, trying to push the family's stalled truck to their house when tragedy struck. Twenty-year-old Jose Banda was driving under the influence and slammed into the vehicle from behind, fatally injuring Barajas' kids. The older brother was killed on the spot, while his younger sibling was airlifted to a hospital, where he eventually died.

According to investigators, Banda died from a gunshot wound to the head just moments after the crash. Witnesses told authorities they saw Barajas walk home right after the accident only to return a few minutes later and approach Banda's vehicle. The dad has since been indicted for murder and is being held Monday in jail on a $450,000 bond while police continue their investigation.

The truth is, if Barajas is guilty, his actions are horrible ... but they are also not incomprehensible. I can't even begin to imagine what he must have felt in those minutes, having just witnessed both of his kids get killed by an irresponsible drunk driver. Any parent in that situation would be heartbroken, devastated, and angry--probably more than angry enough to hurt the person responsible.

I don't justify his crime by any means. No matter how much pain he was in, there's no excuse for taking someone's life. Banda too was someone's child and killing him did not and will not bring back Barajas' own kids. But given the circumstances, I can't say that I don't understand what drove him to his actions.

He did right by his kids, can't blame him for that. I hope he is released soon.
I have thought about things like this many times, and in the ame situation I would do it too. My kids are my life and without them I feel I have no reason to do right by someone else. He may have been someone elses child but he took my childs life for no reason. Just because he wanted to drive drunk, If I would of lived and had access to anything to kill him with I firmly believe I would of done it too.
Blanc...
Can't blame him at all. A chicago an anglo female under the influence hit a girl and left the scene. Why was she out on bail and allowed to go out of town to visit her gma when the little girl died on the spot? !? It's bullshit and unfair. If I was the mom I can't say I wouldn't hunt her down....
As a Dad, I salute Mr. Banajas. To me he is completely innocent. Justice was carried out. The courts be damned. I don't think Texas allows temporary insanity pleas. If I were the county prosecutor, I would dismiss all charges. I am just a racist white guy. (all whites are racists) or so the liberals claim.
why the F does it matter that he is latino, you race baiting, d'bags. Dad shoots drunk driver for killing his kids is all it should say. You racist peice of crap. By the way dad did the right thing. I would have ripped them apart with my bare hands though.

I would have done the same thing, and it wasn't like it was days or months later, it was minutes. I couldn't imagine how I would feel if that happened to me or what I would do, point is in the moment and in the shock he was in I don't blame him at all, this man killed his children, he was filled with hurt and anger. I'm sure now he feels bad now, but how would any other person react ?
PTSD the man was probably not in his right mind after wittnessing such a tragidy.. I believe I would of beat the man to death with out even thinking,, I can not imagine what he must of been going through.. Hope he gets released,, Maybe our courts need harsher punishments for DWI DUI,,
I lost my son to a DUI...I totally understand his pain. I pray the system goes as easy on this father as they would have on the Drunk Driver. But I doubt it...Prayers for this dad from a grieving mother.
I can't say that I wouldn't do the same as well..That poor Man just "Lost it"...Probably in complete SHOCK and Disbelief....God Bless Them All...
I know he had to be so angry and upset over his sons deathBut also He did a bad thing too by taking the other mans life. What if the other driver hadn't been drunk but instead a health problem caused him to pass out instead or something. No one should take it on their own to judge another person without knowing ALL the facts. The driver was drunk and that is truely wrong, But now the father has lost two sons and the rest of his life. SAD
