Horrible parents handcuff 17-year-old mentally challenged teen in basement for months
I firmly believe that parents who abuse and mistreat their own children are some of the worst people on this planet. So you can only imagine how I felt when I heard about the Missouri parents who locked their 17-year-old mentally challenged son in the basement and kept him handcuffed there for months.
Police revealed details about the horrifying case on Wednesday after the teen was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. According to authorities, the boy had been handcuffed to a stainless steel pole in his family's basement since September (!!) when his dad first pulled him out of school. He was released only three a times to go to the bathroom and was fed only instant oatmeal, Ramen noodles, and bologna sandwiches.
In the police report, officers said the victim's "face was sunken in on the sides and his eyes had a look of desperation." How can anyone torture their own child like that? It's just too awful for words.
And to make the story even more heartbreaking, authorities also revealed that the child seems to have a history of abuse. A female neighbor told them she had seen the teenage boy sleeping on the front porch because his parents wouldn't let him inside. She also revealed that the mother would lie to them about her son's whereabouts, saying, "His friends would come over and knock on the door, and (the victim's stepmother) told them that he was out of town." I just don't understand ... why did no one report these signs of torment earlier? He might've been saved months ago!
Thankfully, the victim and a 2-year-old child that was also living at the residence were both placed in state custody. However, I'm furious to say that the parents have not yet been charged. WHAT?! How is that even possible? I know the investigation is still under way, but what further proof could they need? The kid was handcuffed in his parent's basement!
I just hope that those children are kept far away from them and that police charge those parents sooner rather than later. Anyone who is capable of treating their own kids in such a horrifying manner deserves to be in jail.
