A 9-year-old gave birth to a baby in Mexico & it is heartbreaking
In a sad and absolutely heartbreaking story, Mexico City police have recently revealed that a 9-year-old girl gave birth to a baby last month and-- as if that wasn't shocking enough-- the 17-year-old father is nowhere to be found. It's such an awful scenario that I can barely process it.
The young girl's mother told officials that the girl was "just over 8" when she first got pregnant. "The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away," she explained.
Though both the 9-year-old and her new baby girl are healthy, the new mom remains emotionally scarred. Now, authorities are on the hunt for the father. "This is a rape or child sex abuse case," state prosecutor Jorge Villaseno said. "We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened."
I know that this kind of thing happens--kids, particularly those in a high-risk environment, getting pregnant before they even hit double digits---but that still doesn't stop my entire being from aching for this little girl. I mean, being a mom is hard. Really hard. For anyone, even those adults who have prepared themselves for years ahead of time. But for a 9-year-old? She's still basically a baby herself! I can't even fathom how she will take care of another baby, especially since it doesn't seem as if this happened with her consent.

I'm relieved to hear that police are seeking justice and trying to find the teen who took advantage of this little girl and forced her to grow up too fast. But while I hope that they find him, what I really wish more than anything is that this girl somehow finds a way to process what happened and eventually, recover from it. She has a rough road ahead of her, but I pray that she finds a way to navigate it both for herself and her child.
