Parents are constantly making remarks about their kids growing up too fast … but what happens if your child is the exception? In an absolutely baffling case, a 20-year-old girl has somehow remained trapped inside a toddler's body, and the doctors have no idea why!

At the age of 20, Brooke Greenberg should be well on her way into adulthood right now, but instead she has remained physically and mentally similar to that of a 9-month-old toddler and medics have never been able to explain why. In a recent interview on Katie, Greenberg's parents opened up about their daughter's mysterious condition.

Greenberg's mom and dad reveal that their daughter "just stopped growing" when she was four years old. Now, she is unable to talk, still has her baby teeth and must travel in a stroller. Though she has been examined by some of the nation's most prominent doctors and institutions, no one has been able to figure out why this happened to Greenberg or even what exactly it is she's suffering from.

According to a director at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, Green has no "disruptions known to occur in humans that can cause developmental issues." Though some scientists believe she may suffer from a gene mutation that hinders her ability to mature, no formal diagnosis has ever been made and doctors have started referring to her condition as Syndrome X.

While they hope to find more information, her parents keep busy with the full-time job of caring for their daughter. Greenberg has to be fed through a tube in her stomach because her esophagus is too small to properly take down food. And because she's so fragile and susceptible to illnesses, her parents have to constantly monitor her to ensure they know when she's sick and are giving "just the right amount" of medicine.

I've never heard of this condition before and was left pretty stunned after hearing Greenberg's story. Though I know it must be incredibly difficult for the family to deal with, especially with so little information to guide them, I think it's amazing that they are able to rise to the occasion and do what they can to take care of her. That must take some serious strength and it's incredible that they have been able to remain so supportive. Greenberg might not have a normal life, but one thing she certainly has is a loving family who seems to be there for her every step of the way.
