My stomach is in knots every time I hear Jerry Sandusky's name. Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse on June 22nd, and is awaiting sentencing. Today Louis Freeh, the former director of the FBI and released the findings of his investigation, determining that there was a systemic ignorance of Sandusky's sick sexual encounters with young boys on Penn State's campus.

The Freeh Report found that 4 high-ranking officials, including the now deceased but celebrated coach, Joe Paterno, hid the information because they feared bad publicity. Bad publicity, huh?

 According to Freeh:

The evidence shows that these four men also knew about a 1998 criminal investigation of Sandusky relating to suspected sexual misconduct with a young boy in a Penn State football locker room shower. Again, they showed no concern about that victim. The evidence shows that Mr. Paterno was made aware of the 1998 investigation of Sandusky, followed it closely, but failed to take any action, even though Sandusky had been a key member of his coaching staff for almost 30 years, and had an office just steps away from Mr. Paterno's. At the very least, Mr. Paterno could have alerted the entire football staff, in order to prevent Sandusky from bringing another child into the Lasch Building. Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley also failed to alert the Board of Trustees about the 1998 investigation or take any further action against Mr. Sandusky. None of them even spoke to Sandusky about his conduct. In short, nothing was done and Sandusky was allowed to continue with impunity.

What kind of lifetime crisis therapy is required by the kid who was coerced into anal sex with Sandusky in Penn State's locker? That's the kind of personal publicity problem I would never wish on anyone.

Their silence saved the school's reputation at the time, but it allowed Sandusky to sexually molest 10 boys over a span of 15 years. There could be plenty more, like Matt Sandusky, who announced he'd also been sexually abused by his adoptive dad.

It's simply mind-boggling and a shame that Sandusky's actions were shielded and protected to that extent. To know that Penn State chose to look the other way to save its reputation is equally sickening as what Sandusky did.

Are you surprised by the findings of the Freeh investigation on Penn State?

NO--not at all--its what I thought it would be--I even thought more people around these guys knew and didn't say anything, hoping jer would change his ways--instead he helped to open the 2nd mile--what a deal ! I think if the death penalty is on the book--it should be used now-SMU got it and there wasn't any children hurt in the deal--this deal has a bunch of victims (young boys) with their lives effected everyday from this horrible treatment. Hope they all end up right next to their good old buddy jer

Sandusky was thoroughly investigated in 2002 and cleared. Right or wrong, when someone is cleared and not charged, it pretty much tells the planet they didn't do anything wrong. Later, in 2005, the investigating DA went missing. Sandusky was again placed under investigation in 2009 under the direction of then DA Michael Madeira and AG Tom Corbett. Once the eight victims came forth and testified, this man was finally brought down. We can all look back and judge, but without evidence, there is never a conviction. Thank God the testimony was taken seriously by the jury in this case! In many cases, victim's testimony is torn apart by the defense and without photos or physical evidence, pedophiles go free. Let's just thank God one is behind bars, and let's keep our eyes peeled for all the others still out there.
useless article that sheds no new information on timeline no research at all just opinion. typical of the negative side of the net.
