For the first time since his assault, 17-year-old Michael Brewer--the teen who was set on fire by middle school classmates in 2009--took the stand to tell his side of the story. On Thursday, Brewer testified against his attacker, telling the world that he thought he would die that day.

In his terrifying testimony, Brewer described the incident that occurred on October 12, 2009. He recalled a cold liquid going down his back before the burning sensation started, causing him to jump a fence and dive into a nearby swimming pool. "I remember looking down and seeing skin hanging from my arms. I felt like I was going to die," he told the court.

Brewer's statements were all part of the final testimonies against the boy who orchestrated the attack, Matthew Bent. Bent is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder.  Brewer says they were arguing over money because Bent had tried to sell him a bowl to smoke marijuana or tobacco out of that he did not want.

But Bent was only the ringleader of the attack.  Two others, 17-year-old Denver Colorado Jarvis and 18-year-old Jesus Mendez have both pleaded no contest to attempted murder charges--Jarvis for pouring the alcohol and Mendez for flicking the lighter that set Brewer on fire. Jarvis is serving an eight-year prison sentence while Mendez was sentenced to 11 years.

I am absolutely horrified by this story and can't even begin to imagine the pain and torment this poor teenager has had to go through, not only in surviving and recovering from this torturous attack but also reliving it all over again through this trial. Watching him testify in the video below, you can even see how difficult and frustrating the whole thing is for him. Personally, I hope to see Bent punished harshly for his despicable act. I mean, I don't care how young he is, I think you have to be cruel and insane to plot to set another person on fire.

If Brewer has to live with physical and emotional scars from the attack (he still gets burning sensations and has trouble moving in certain temperatures), then Bent also deserves to live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life.
