A Miami man nickhnamed the "zombie attacker" after he was caught naked and chewing the face off another man may have been under the influence of bath salts, police say. The unbelievable Miami news story broke on Saturday, after a witness saw the attack and called the police. After attempting to get "the zombie" to stop, the cops finally had to shoot the him several times, killing him.

Bath salts, the water-soluble additions to a bath for relaxation or skin exfoliating purposes, have been found to contain the stimulants Mephedrone and Methylone. But why would anyone get high on bath salts? And, more importantly, how are they doing so much damage that a man actually turned into a violent zombie-like attacker?

Apparently bath salts (a new synthetic drug that looks like the bathtime accessory) are being used as the new LSD and snorting them causes people "to go completely insane and become very violent," according to Fraternal Order of Police President Armando Aguilar. I've never heard of such a crazy thing but it seems to be growing in popularity and sounds pretty accurate when you hear the description of the scene by the witness who originally found the zombie attacker, Rudy Eugene. Larry Vega told CNN affiliate WSVN what he found:

The guy was like tearing him to pieces with his mouth, so I told him, 'Get off!' You know it's like the guy just kept eating the other guy away, like ripping his skin. It was just a blob of blood. You couldn't really see, it was just blood all over the place.

It all sounds pretty gruesome to me. The attacker apparently had a history of violence against his wife and, although the police have not identified the victim, the other man is in critical condition at the hospital where he was taken after 75-80% of his face was missing. If this is really what happens when people get high on bath salts, I hope that more than just 37 states will restrict or ban the stimulants that are causing this kind of reaction in people.
