When I'm looking to drop a few pounds, I love making smoothies. Many people associate smoothies with being boring and get tired of them really fast. The trick is to combine the right ingredients in order for them to not to taste like a "diet" food. Smoothies don't always have to be bland and they have the potential of tasting like dessert!

One of my biggest dieting downfalls is my sweet tooth, but I refuse to ignore it. 1 1/2 cold water
1/2 can (BPA free) coconut milk
1/2 cup soaked raw cashews
4 cubes ice
1 tablespoon chia seeds
2 tablespoons cacao powder
2 tablespoons coconut oil

You'll get your fiber, whole grains, and sweet tooth fix in this delicious blend. If you're craving Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, then this is your go-to smoothie. One sip of this and you'll forget those chocolates even existed!

2 ripe bananas, peeled, cut into large chunks and frozen (click here for how to freeze fruit)
1/2 cup almond milk or milk of choice*
3 Tablespoons creamy, natural peanut butter (or raw almond butter for a more neutral flavor)
1/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats (use oats labeled “gluten-free” for a gluten-free smoothie)
2 Tablespoons raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder or chocolate syrup
Sweetener:  add your preferred sweetener to taste, such as honey, dates or coconut palm sugar.  With unsweetened almond milk and natural cacao powder, 3 pitted dates seems to be perfect for us.
1/2 cup – 1 cup ice, depending on how icy you want it

  • I scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Sunwarrior brown rice protein powder)
  • 1 Tablespoon old fashioned oats, uncooked
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2-3 ice cubes

This smoothie is packed with omega-3's and plenty of vitamins that are derived from the almond butter, bananas, and flax seeds. The heavenly tasting mix is perfect as a post-workout replenisher or as a snack.


  • 1 medium to large frozen banana (break your bananas into one-inch chunks before freezing)
  • 1 heaping spoonful of almond butter
  • 2 spoonfuls flax seed
  • 1/2 cup almond milk, yogurt or regular milk
  • drizzle of honey, agave nectar or maple syrup
  • tiny drop of almond extract (or vanilla extract, but the almond extract makes the smoothie taste almost like candy!)
