Memorial Day Menu: Refreshing grilled peach mojito! (EXCLUSIVE RECIPE)

This cocktail is originally named after Georgia, where the sweetest peaches reach their peak during the summer. It is a sublime concoction made of rum and grilled peaches muddled with lime juice, brown sugar, and fresh basil leaves. Grilling peaches lead me straight to the wonders of grilling all different kinds of fruit, and the enhanced flavor that you get from it is something I can't get enough of. In my book, that's just another great reason to raise our glasses and celebrate!

The recipe below makes one serving. A good thing to try when making a drink such as this one (sweet, refreshing and that includes some fresh fruit as an ingredient) is making a virgin version for the kids. In that case I would substitute either soda or sparkling water for the rum. I hope you like it! Cheers and happy beginning of 2013 BBQ season!

Georgia Summer

2 oz of white rum
1/2 peach, pitted and cut in 4 wedged, grilled for 3 minutes each side
1/2 lemon, quartered
3 large basil leaves
2 Tbs. of brown sugar

In a shaker, muddle the peaches, lemon, and sugar to a paste. Add the basil leaves and lightly press with the muddler. Add the rum and ice and shake for 15 to 20 seconds. Double strain into a rock glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a basil sprig.
