J.Lo and Oprah had a great heart-to-heart.
Jen joined Oprah onstage wearing a gorgeous yellow suit, and they spoke about everything, including her career, her Oscars snub for her role in Hustlers, the incredible year she just had, her engagement, and her kids.
Jennifer revealed that she fell in love with Alex's consistency.
When asked how she knew that Alex was the one she wanted to marry, J.Lo shared that it was his support and his consistency that made her realize he was what she needed. "It was different than anything that I had ever experienced in the sense of his consistency. What he says, he does...every time. And that is big. He wants to build together, which I've never had. I never had anybody who wants to see me shine and grow and be," she said. "I think him being in my life is a big part of what happened this year because he allowed me to [take off] and it wasn't like, get back down here or don't outshine me," she explained. "We have that kind of mirror quality for each other."
A-Rod let her know there is no need to rush to the altar.
The former Yankees player knows that there is no need to rush something that will last forever. Unlike in her past relationships, the Hustlers star is not looking to speed up the process to marry her man. She told Oprah that it "doesn't" matter when they do it, as long as they do it. "It's so funny because when we first got engaged I was like, 'Oooo, we're gonna get married in a couple months?!' Your old thinking comes right back, all that hopeless romantic [stuff] that made me get married three times," she said. "He's like, 'Whatever you want to do, we can talk about it.' I said, 'But if we're going to be together for the rest of our lives, what is the rush? If that's what we're really going to do, if we're really going to be partners.'"
She continued: "If we're really going to try to build something together that we both never had or both never felt like we had, which was a family with a husband and a wife, and a mother and a father, and we embrace all of our children and we show them something that we didn't have."
She revealed that they "eased" their kids into their blended family.
Seeing Alex bond with the twins and seeing his kids bond with Jen's kids has been the best! They have really established their own little blended family, but the actress revealed that it took time and a slow pace. “I think they just started seeing him come around and little by little we kind of eased into it. And then we went on a family trip so all the kids could be together, and that was a big step for us,” she told Oprah. “That we talked to them about.”
The TV host asked what would have happened if her kids weren't fond of Alex. “Then we would have had issues,” J.Lo said. “Then I would have sat there and been like, ‘Why don’t you like him?’ I would have wanted to know. But it wasn’t that. They really liked him.”
The couple got engaged in March 2019.
This will be Jennifer's fourth marriage and Alex's second, so it makes sense that they are going into this at their own pace. In the past, Jen has tied the knot within months of dating exes like Marc Anthony and Cris Judd, so this decision to really enjoy their engagement is different for her. They have both had a pretty hectic year, and although they have yet to choose a wedding date, we hope that they get time to slow down and really enjoy planning their big day and saying "I do" without any rush or pressure.
