The story of how Lauren and Paul got together.
“I met him at a local pub--I fancied him straight away,” Lauren said. “He asked for my number and the next day he texted asking to go on a date to the cinema. We started going out straight after that.” A few months later, Lauren got pregnant, and in March of 2004, the couple welcomed their daughter. Later that same year, in August, Paul proposed and Lauren said "Yes!"
The newlyweds took Lauren's mom on their honeymoon.
Lauren’s mom, Julie, paid for the wedding, and the couple brought her along on their honeymoon. Yes, it’s a little strange to bring your mom along on a honeymoon, but Julie forked out around $19,000 for the wedding, so as a token of their gratitude, the newlyweds invited her to join them on their honeymoon.
Cue the ominous telenovela music here...
Once they all got back home, the honeymoon was literally and figuratively over. Paul started acting distant and strange, according to Lauren.
Then Lauren’s sister found text exchanges between their mom and Paul and told Lauren.
Lauren’s mom denied anything was going on, and Paul would not let Lauren near his phone. But a few days later, Paul left Lauren and moved in with Julie. Then Julie got pregnant, and just nine months after Paul had left Lauren, he and Julie had a baby together.
Why did Lauren even go to the wedding?
“It was almost too much to bear but I did it for my daughter,” she said. Well, so far it looks like she’s doing a better job at mothering than her own mother did. We wish everyone involved lots of healing and access to therapy--lots of therapy.
