There are more details, which we will of course share with you in a moment, but just let the idea of a mother running off with her daughter's husband sink in for a minute, because that's some heavy stuff right there. Like how?! What kind of mother would do such a thing?

Oh, and it gets even heavier, because Lauren and Paul have a child together, and now Lauren's mom Julie and Paul have a child together, too. How do you even figure out how these people are related at this point? Lauren's and Julie's kids with Paul are half-siblings, but Lauren is also a half-sibling to the child that Julie and Paul had together. This is all so confusing, so read on for more details.

The story of how Lauren and Paul got together.

“I met him at a local pub--I fancied him straight away,” Lauren said. “He asked for my number and the next day he texted asking to go on a date to the cinema. We started going out straight after that.” A few months later, Lauren got pregnant, and in March of 2004, the couple welcomed their daughter. Later that same year, in August, Paul proposed and Lauren said "Yes!"

The newlyweds took Lauren's mom on their honeymoon.

Lauren’s mom, Julie, paid for the wedding, and the couple brought her along on their honeymoon. Yes, it’s a little strange to bring your mom along on a honeymoon, but Julie forked out around $19,000 for the wedding, so as a token of their gratitude, the newlyweds invited her to join them on their honeymoon.

Cue the ominous telenovela music here...

Once they all got back home, the honeymoon was literally and figuratively over. Paul started acting distant and strange, according to Lauren.

Lauren’s mom denied anything was going on, and Paul would not let Lauren near his phone. But a few days later, Paul left Lauren and moved in with Julie. Then Julie got pregnant, and just nine months after Paul had left Lauren, he and Julie had a baby together.

In 2009, Lauren watched as her mother married Paul.

“I went to watch mom marry the same man I’d wed five years earlier,” Lauren said. “As they exchanged vows it was hard not to think of the day Paul had said the same words to me, when mom had stood alongside me, the proud mother of the bride.”

To make things even more disturbing, Lauren and Paul had gotten married on August 14, 2004, and Julie and Paul got married on August 15, 2009, so 5 years and 1 day later. YIKES!

Why did Lauren even go to the wedding?

“It was almost too much to bear but I did it for my daughter,” she said. Well, so far it looks like she’s doing a better job at mothering than her own mother did. We wish everyone involved lots of healing and access to therapy--lots of therapy.
