When Hustlers was released in September 2019, there was major Oscars buzz surrounding her performance. She was asked about it during an interview, and she got emotional and said it was an honor to even be part of the conversation. When Oscars talk begins to happen after a movie is released, it usually results in a nomination. All signs pointed to that being the case after she was nominated for other awards shows, including the Golden Globes.

Even though she lost out to Laura Dern in the best supporting actress category at the Globes earlier this month, she was still recognized and nominated for her role. It might have not been her desired result, but now she has two Golden Globes nominations under her belt--one for Hustlers and the other for her work in Selena.

Some fans expressed their disappointment with the snub.

J.Lo's fans and people who loved her performance in the movie believed she was a major contender for the category. After the announcement took place, people took to Twitter to express their disappointment, and some believed that the lack of diversity is not surprising at all coming from the academy.
