The Oscar nominations were announced, and her name was missing.
The Oscar nominations were announced early on Monday, January 13,and J.Lo's name was clearly missing from the supporting actress category. She attended the 45th Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 11, where she was honored in the best supporting actress category and said she wouldn't be waking up early to find out if she's been nominated.
"I think these things are just a big thrill ride. You know? I don't know what it is about them. Any way you go. But I'm super happy to be here tonight," J.Lo shared. "[I'm] really flattered that the LA Film Critics chose me as the Best Supporting Actress of the year. That's a big deal. I feel really honored."
Jennifer Lopez did not get the nomination people were waiting for.
When Hustlers was released in September 2019, there was major Oscars buzz surrounding her performance. She was asked about it during an interview, and she got emotional and said it was an honor to even be part of the conversation. When Oscars talk begins to happen after a movie is released, it usually results in a nomination. All signs pointed to that being the case after she was nominated for other awards shows, including the Golden Globes.
The actress went home empty-handed at the Golden Globes.
Even though she lost out to Laura Dern in the best supporting actress category at the Globes earlier this month, she was still recognized and nominated for her role. It might have not been her desired result, but now she has two Golden Globes nominations under her belt--one for Hustlers and the other for her work in Selena.
Other fans made some funny comments.
One fan wrote that this was just as upsetting as when J.Lo released the song "Dear Ben" for her ex Ben Affleck.
Others took it all in stride.
The movie might have not landed her the Oscar nomination, but at least it was a commercial success. This fan highlighted the movie's accomplishments, and it all does sound great. It was a big hit at the box office, and no one can take that away from her.
Some people just didn't understand.
There seemed to be a wave of confusion for a lot of people during the announcement. If a person is nominated for a Golden Globe, it is often an indicator that they will be nominated for an Oscar.
This fan wanted everyone to remember the performance.
A fan shared a clip from the movie to remind everyone of J.Lo's powerful performance in the film.
Some felt that there was a lack of representation.
There were no women nominated in the best director category, and other minorities were left out of the nominations in the major categories.
Some people were furious.
Many fans expected that J.Lo would become an Oscar-nominated actress, but when that wasn't the case, they were not pleased with the academy.
