Their first meeting was electric.
Remember that meme that everyone went crazy for after Alex Rodriguez proposed to Jennifer Lopez? The meme features a picture of the first time that Jennifer and Alex met, all on account of Marc Anthony throwing the first pitch at a game. This meeting happened back in 2005 when they were both still married to other people. The meme made fun of how Jennifer and Alex looked so happy in the picture and Marc Anthony, not so much. It's like the picture was telling us all the future.
Well, it turns out the meme wasn't too far from the truth because even back then, there was something between Jennifer and Alex. "We shook hands, and it was this weird electricity for, like, three seconds," Jennifer said in the interview. "Three to five seconds of looking at somebody right in their eyes, and getting stuck."
Years later when they went on a date, Alex was acting weird.
It wasn't until 2017 when they were both free agents and had a chance encounter at the Beverly Hills Hotel that they started dating. On their first date, Alex was anything but smooth. The way that Jennifer tells it, Alex was talking about stuff you wouldn't normally talk about on a first date--and name-dropping.
"I realized afterwards he was a little nervous, saying all this stuff you would never say on a first date," Jen told Sports Illustrated. "Things got better when he excused himself to go to the bathroom and texted her, "YOU LOOK SEXY AS F---."
Jennifer figured out fast that they are a good match.
Sure, they found out they had a lot in common, but they also realized that they complement each other perfectly. "I’ve been in the public eye, I’ve navigated the media in a certain way, I’m creative and artistic and have all these skill sets," says Jennifer. "He’s a business-minded guy who knows math and numbers and money and equity and all that stuff--like, EBITDA, right? What I was missing, he kind of had. And what he was missing, I had."
FYI, EBITDA refers to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. Dang, Jennifer, maybe you could have A-Rod give us all some financial lessons.
