Chiquis Rivera roasts haters who slammed her "Mexico is the s**t" jacket

Chiquis Rivera can't catch a break. Her haters will do whatever it takes to get her in hot water. The entertainer posted a photo on Instagram showing off a jacket that said "Mexico is the shit" and, unfortunately, that message got lost in translation. If you grew up in the U.S. you would not even flinch at the statement, but some of Chiquis' followers assumed the worse and thought the jacket was dissing the country.

Say what you want about Chiquis, but when it comes to her Mexican pride, there is no room for questioning it. She wore the jacket on Mexican Indepence Day weekend for a good reason. Making a statement that Mexico is crap could not be further from the truth and Chiquis got on social media to set the record straight.

Chiquis posed in a green "Mexico is the shit" jacket last week.

It was a cool statement until the people who didn't understand the message started jumping to conclusions.

People started slamming Chiquis for wearing an "offensive" jacket in the comments of the post.

The harsh criticism will make anyone who knew Chiquis meant no harm.

Chiquis could not let this harmful assumption slide and got on Instagram Live to get everyone together.

"I saw that something was published about one of my outfits of the day," Chiquis said in Spanish. "The other day [I wore] a jacket that said ‘Mexico is the shit.’ And for the ignorant people who don’t understand what that means because they are saying I’m disrespecting Mexico, which is not true, it does bother me. There are a lot of things that people say about me that roll right off of me but this did bother me a lot because it’s nonsense to say that I’m saying Mexico is crap. No, ‘Mexico is the shit’ means Mexico is a great place. It’s something good, don’t be so dumb."

Chiquis felt that the misguided backlash came from haters looking for any excuse to drag her.

"They are a bunch of fools," Chiquis continued. "I already saw three or four things and comments on the photo saying that I was disrespecting Mexico, and no. And there were other people saying ‘Why is Chiquis all of a sudden showing support for Mexico?’ Well, because I am Mexican. Mexican descent, that is what Mexican means. I don’t have to be born in Mexico in order to feel proud of my roots. I have Mexican blood in my veins. If people don’t like it I don’t care."

The irony of it all is that the jacket was created by Mexican fashion designer Anuar Layon to celebrate his people.

"It is a tribute to all those Mexicans around the world that are shifting global culture with their beautiful hearts and brilliant minds; it's a way to show that we are many and we are together; that we are raising the standards, reminding the world that our voice matters," he shared on Instagram. "'Mexico is the shit' is a community, a support system and a movement inspiring love, respect and trust!"

Anuar never even intended to sell the jacket when he created it.

According to an interview with the Huffington Post, that all changed when he gifted the original piece to travel photographer Carlos E. Lang who ended up posting a photo of him wearing it in front of Trump Tower in New York during the 2016 election season. That led to the jacket becoming a symbol of pride and made the public demand the opportunity to buy it.

The jacket's backstory makes Chiquis' haters look even sillier than before.
