Giving back is something a lot of celebrities do after they make it big in Hollywood. While most of them focus on allocating their money and time to charities, others have gone straight to the source and helped out their fans directly. Some stars have paid off college tuition, paid for families' grocery bills, and others have helped people pay off hospital bills.

While they've been fortunate enough to have found success in their fields, they know the importance of understanding that sometimes it's necessary to roll up your sleeves and help others who aren't as fortunate. They often use their influence to call attention to causes that are close to their hearts, but other times they do good without calling any attention to it at all.

These celebrities show us that no matter how far you go, staying humble and being compassionate to others is always key. Take a look at celebrities who have gone above and beyond to help their fans and other people in need.

Alejandro Sanz wants to make Dreamers' dreams come true. 1

Alejandro is helping to raise funds through the sale of T-shirts for three charities: Ascend Educational Fund, Dream Big Nevada, and Immigrants Rising. All three of these groups work to help "children and youth who entered the US irregularly, accompanying their parents, and in most cases, without knowing their immigration status."


Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez felt compelled to help when they heard about hungry students. 2

The caption that Jennifer included when she posted this video says it all. She wrote:

"When we heard about the students and amazing teachers at Jacksboro Elementary in Tennessee, we knew we had to help. We heard teachers were helping students bring home food when they didn't have enough. When we saw this story, it brought tears not just to my eyes, but Alex's as well! I don’t know if you guys know, but Alex and I are part owners in a company called Tiller & Hatch, and we decided to donate a years worth of their yummy, healthy meals, for the students and their school’s food pantry. 🍽✨"


Taylor Swift helped a struggling student get her learn on. 3

Ayesha Khurram is a big Taylor Swift fan and she posted on social media that her parents, who both work minimum wage jobs, just couldn't afford to cover the cost of college. Just two hours later, Ayesha got almost $5,000 via PayPal sent to her by Taylor Swift with a note that read, "Ayesha, get your learn on girl. I love you!"

Beyoncé has given millions to fight homelessness in Houston. 4

Over the course of a few years, Beyoncé has given $7 million to help fund the Knowles-Tenemos Place Apartments in Texas, which house people who would otherwise be homeless. Residents get meals and all kinds of support to help them become self-sufficient.


Lionel Messi set up a foundation to help children. 5

Fundación Leo Messi is dedicated to help at-risk children on an international level have the opportunities, care, and education that they need in order to realize their dreams. Leo also donated $600,000 to help refurbish a children's hospital in Rosario, Argentina.


Ariana Grande raised over $3M for Manchester. 6

On May 22, 2017, a suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured many more outside of the Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande performance. Just two weeks after that horrifying event, Ariana returned to lead a benefit concert that raised over $3 million for victims.


Gisele Bündchen gave $1.5M to Haiti relief efforts. 7

When the Brazilian supermodel found out about the devastation caused by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, she wanted to do whatever she could to help. Without hesitation she wrote a check for $1.5 million to the Red Cross for the Haitian relief effort.

Ricky Martin rushed to aid his fellow Puerto Ricans. 8

The singer worked tirelessly to help his native Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria hit the island in September 2017. He donated $100,000 and continued to collect money through a campaign that reached $300,000 to help with the victims’ basic needs and for rebuilding. Ricky also headed down to PR to personally lend a hand to the people in need. What a hero! 


Salma Hayek stands up for women. 9

The actress has been known to donate thousands of dollars and her time to help women in need. She has donated to a shelter for abused women in Mexico and to other groups fighting domestic violence. In 2018, Salma was involved in the Time’s Up movement, which helps provide free legal aid to people fighting sexual misconduct in the workplace. 

Gina Rodriguez put a fan's dreams above her own. 10

Instead of campaigning for an Emmy for her role in the fourth and final season of Jane the Virgin, Gina is using the usual money CBS TV Studios would spend on the campaign to pay for an undocumented high school student to go to Princeton University. "Our show has always jumped at any opportunity to help me do something for the Latinx community," she told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2018. "So I asked my showrunner, Jennie [Snyder Urman], if we could do something different with the money this year." 

She added: “I think sharing this might inspire other people to do something similar. You can desire recognition and, at the same time, decide to not play in the confines of the game as it's set up.”


Antonio Banderas goes above and beyond for kids. 11

The actor founded the charity Lagrimas y Favores to provide college students and cancer patients in need with financial resources and grants to help them pay for college. He linked that organization to help other charities provide medical care for cancer patients and their families, as well as with other necessities. 

Jennifer Lopez cares about her Puerto Rican people. 12

The singer and fiancé Alex Rodriguez wasted no time before jumping into action after Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria in September 2017. She donated $1 million from her Las Vegas residency toward the cause. In addition to that, together with ex-husband Marc Anthony, she raised $35 million through the One Voice: Somos Live! Telethon and concert, which went toward emergency supplies and aid to help rebuild the island.


Shakira is serious about education. 13

Since the start of her career, la Colombiana has gone above and beyond to help the people in her native Barranquilla and the rest of the country. She launched the foundation Pies Descalzos in 1997, which helps provide less fortunate children with an education. The foundation has opened five schools around Colombia, which gives an education and food to thousands of children.

Eva Longoria helps parents and families in need. 14

Eva is the spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cancer, which is an organization that helps Latino children with cancer and their families. The nonprofit helps the families deal with their child’s illness by providing them with resources to help them financially and educationally, as well as providing them with assistance with language barriers.


Carlos Santana opened a center to help abused people. 15

The famed guitarist opened up The Santana House in 2007 to provide medical services, mental health services, and legal aid to people affected by sexual assault and violence for minors, senior citizens, and disabled people. He also founded the Milagro Foundation for kids in need.

Juanpa Zurita used his platform to help Mexico. 16

When an earthquake severely affected various areas in Mexico, the internet star wasted no time in launching the #LoveArmyMexico initiative to help those affected by the catastrophe. By using his huge platform on the web, he ended up raising more than $1 million to help people in his country. 


Kim Kardashian stepped in to pay for a woman's legal fees. 17

The KKW Beauty founder made it her mission to help Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother sentenced to life in prison for her first offense with drug trafficking. After seeing one of Alice’s interviews on Twitter, the reality TV star got involved in trying to secure the grandmother’s clemency. Kim then stepped in with her own lawyers, covering the legal fees and even meeting with President Donald Trump in May 2018, who then pardoned Alice in June 2018. 

Chrissy Teigen's paid for a fan to go to beauty school. 18

Chrissy Teigen is the people’s champ. The supermodel and husband John Legend donated $72,000 from each member of their family, including their two babies, Luna and Miles, to the ACLU on Donald Trump’s 72nd birthday in 2018. They’ve done quite a lot for the community as well, like when Chrissy paid for a woman’s tuition of $5,500 to attend esthetician school in 2017.


Drake spent his money wisely. 19

Drake used the $900,000 budget his record label gave him for the music video for his song “God’s Plan” to make other people’s lives better. He allocated the money to different causes including a $25,000 donation to the Miami Senior High School, he gave a University of Miami student $50,000 to cover her college tuition, he donated $50,000 to a women’s homeless shelter and went into a supermarket and paid for everyone’s groceries.

Nicki Minaj rewarded her hardworking fans. 20

The rapper took to Twitter in May 2017 to tell fans to send her their straight A report cards and in exchange she would be paying off their tuition bills. She then shared a list of names of students she had helped by giving them thousands of dollars to cover their education costs. Now that’s something special!
