The effort obviously paid off: Derbez just made movie history this weekend, and this is only the beginning. The Mexican star is producing three movies in the next 12 months, among them, the awaited remake of the iconic comedy Overboard.
According to official box office records, Latin Lover beat Tom Hanks and Emma Watson's The Circle and landed the second place among the top movies in America, after The Fate of the Furious. The comedy grossed $12.1 million this weekend. So exciting for Latino filmmakers and actors. Go Eugenio!

Aside from How to be a Latin Lover, where the Mexican superstar plays Derbez's strong sister and single mother Sara, she is also starring in Beatriz at Dinner, which opens on June 9, and The Hitman's Bodyguard with papacito Ryan Reynolds, expected to premiere on August 18.
