Coming out is never easy, but it's especially difficult in the Latino community. As a culture, there are still strides we need to take when it comes to accepting homosexuality. Much of the Latino community tends to still embrace machista and anti-gay sentiments, which explains why it sometimes takes our people, like Ricky Martin, so long to come out as gay.

When photos of the late singer Jenni Rivera's 16-year-old son Johnny Lopez and his boyfriend Joaquin came out in 2017, they went viral and the internet had a field day. But Johnny quickly shut the haters down by officially coming out in a video he recorded with his older sister, Chiquis Rivera, and shared to Facebook.

More from MamásLatinas: How these 10 Latino stars celebrated gay pride

A host from Despierta America, Luis Sandoval, gave a heartfelt speech when he publicly came out as gay on National Coming Out Day in October 2018. Although his loved ones already knew his truth, he wanted to share his story with the world in hopes of inspiring other people living the same experience.

While it was a touching moment on the morning show, viewers flooded the comments section on Instagram with plenty of hate, and it showed how far behind we are as a community in regards to this topic. Living your truth takes courage, vulnerability, and faith, and these Latino celebrities who are part of the LGBTQ community are proof of that. They continue to represent people like them, who are perhaps struggling with their own identities, and inspire them to one day be able to come out and be proud of who they are. Here's a look at a few other celebs who have openly and bravely spoken up about their sexuality!

Since then, the TV personality has shared insight into his experiences as a gay man and as a father. He caught some heat in April 2018 when he said he would prefer if his child wasn't gay. “If I had my preference, I would prefer my son to be heterosexual because that’s easier. As a gay man, I’m not ashamed of being gay, but if I could go back in time and when I was 18, be given a choice ... I would’ve chosen, then, to be heterosexual," he said in a YouTube clip. “Being a gay man, or even a gay woman or a transgender man or a transgender woman in America and around the world is still a harder road to travel on. We are still discriminated against, and I don’t want my son [or daughters Mia and Mayte] to have a harder path in life.”
