Oscar isaac Guatemala-born, Miami-raised Oscar Isaac is one of the three main characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But although his character of Poe Dameron, the best X-Wing pilot in the resistance, is the one that has made him famous worldwide, his career so far is actually outstanding, to the point that I'm convinced that he is our Denzel Washington--and, like Denzel, he may very well be the actor that will break all the walls that exist now for Latino actors. I'll tell you why.

The actor was raised in Miami, in a very Christian environment. "We were evangelical. [At church] there was speaking in tongues, the devil was a real thing and people believed in demon possession. I was a bit of a loner. Sometimes I look back and think maybe I missed out a little. But I had no interest in going off the rails," he told London's The Telegraph.

His decision to drop his last name Hernández and go with Oscar Isaac as his professional name was made after becoming an American citizen:

I got stopped more at airports and taken to the back because of all the Oscar Hernándezes who are on the list. Also, starting out as an actor, you immediately worry about being pigeonholed or typecast. I don't want to just go up for the dead body, the gangster, the bandolero, whatever. I don’t want to be defined by someone else’s idea of what an Oscar Hernández should be playing. So I used my middle name, Isaac, as my last name.

His first TV role was in Law and Order.

He was also Saint Joseph in A Nativity Story. His portrayal was nothing short of amazing. "In theological terms," Isaac said in an interview about the role, "..it's really interesting ...  that Joseph was really an integral part of this happening [the Jesus story], and if he had made a couple of different choices, things would have turned out very differently--I mean, I’m sure that God would have found a way, but [Joseph] had a lot of responsibility."
