Mario Lopez outs dad for smuggling immigrants across the border
Mario Lopez had a new memoir out, Just Between Us. I haven't read it yet, but I'm curious because it sounds all kinds of juicy. In it he discuss being a child star, a one night stand in Vegas with a pop star and perhaps what I find the most interesting and surprising revelation is that Mario Lopez says his father snuck undocumented immigrants across the border. Oh my GATOS, why is he being so candid?

Well, in a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Lopez said, "When I decided I was going to do something like this, I just said, 'Alright, I'm going to be unfiltered and just put everything out there." Okay, then.
I have to say that I really appreciate the way that Lopez described his father's illegal border activity. It was sort of matter of fact, with the understanding that his dad did what he did to help support his family and it was funny enough to make the audience laugh. Lopez said,
I was born in Chula Vista, which is the border town to Tijuana, and I'm a child of immigrants. My dad did what he had to do to take care of us. Oftentimes when we'd take little trips across the border — and this was obviously pre-9/11 — we'd come back right away. He'd pull over and he'd open the trunk and sometimes people would come out.
Am I shocked? H to the E to the L to the L, HELL no! Uh, child of immigrants raised in California right here. I'm just sayin' without really sayin' it that I may be all too familiar with the situation that Lopez is describing.
Listen, it's easy to judge people for doing things like helping illegal immigrants cross the border for money. It's totally easy to judge, but you know what's hard? What's hard is doing what you have to do to support your family and keep them fed, clothed and under a roof. Sometimes the things you do cross boundaries and sometimes those boundaries are called the border.
Here's a great picture that Mario posted of his parents for a recent #TBT (Throwback Thursday). They must be so proud of their son.
