'The Voice': The WINNER Revealed!
Usher gained his first victory tonight as America bestowed the title of 'The Voice' on our favorite soulful daddy Josh Kaufman. After a tough season in which the Indianapolis papi lost his round two battle to R&B barista Delvin Choice (aka Delvin who?), only to be stolen by Usher and coached to victory. Josh fought long and hard to earn the season six title. Here's why he won.
1) He was all heart: Night after night he proved he is all heart and soul, with his original voice and deep passion. Josh had his win signed, sealed, and delivered from The Blind Auditions to the Finale Stage.
2) The audience was ready for something new: Usher rallied for Josh claiming he represented the "journey to being an artist." He was not always the top artist, but every week he presented an passionate, unique, and technically advanced rendition of artists ranging from John Legend, to Bonnie Raitt, George Michael, Stevie Wonder, and Adele.
3) What a difference a coach makes: Despite starting on Team Adam, Josh flourished under the mentorship of R&B veteran Usher. Could Adam have taken him all the way? Maybe. But Usher added his special sauce to expand and enhance Josh's natural talent.
4) He is 'The Voice.' Last night I listened to all of the finale performances as if they were blind auditions. After putting my money on Christina Grimmie, when I heard Josh sing "Set Fire to the Rain," I changed my prediction for the Season 6 champion. Josh was that good. He has 'The Voice.' He earned the title fair and square.
Luckily for internet sensation Christina Grimmie, Adam promised her a record deal with his label on air, win or no win, so she is well on her way to post-Voice success. Is Blake willing to offer America's cowboy, aka Jake Worthington, the same? Only time will tell.
Congrats to Josh Kaufman and the rest of 'The Voice' familia. It was quite a season. Tune in next season when Pharrell and Gwen Stefani join veteran coaches Blake and Adam for another epic season. I know I will.
