selena gomezSelena Gomez has been in the headlines not so much for her music lately, but her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. Rumor has it that he's the reason she secretly went to rehab in January,  but that hearsay can finally be put to rest.

During the We Day California event organized by the Free The Children charity, she revealed the real answer behind her rehab stay and believe it or not you will be able to relate.

The singer was a guest at the youth event where she made an inspirational speech that touched many. "You all have pressure that you have to deal with every day--with school, with work, with friends, with parents, with family. They tell me what to wear, how to look, what I should say, how I should be," she said. The 21-year-old then added her own personal touch and revealed a little more than the audience expected:

Until recently I had given into that pressure, I lost sight of who I was. I listened to opinions of people and I tried to change who I am because I thought others would accept me for it. And I realized I don't know how to be anything but myself.

Selena made sure the kids knew that she wasn't trying to tell them what to do with their lives. "I'm here to just tell you my path so that you can hopefully take something away from it, because I don't like being honest with press and interviews. I like being honest with you directly," she candidly said. She also made sure to remind them that they should trust their instincts and never give up on their dreams no matter how many people tell them they can't do something.

I'm glad Selena finally spoke out about what she's been going through. She is definitely an inspiration to young women everywhere and they needed to hear it straight from her. Hopefully she is in a better place now and continues to live life by her own rules and not by her others'. And we hope she's staying away from the things (or people, hint, hint) that are detrimental to her life.
