SAG Awards 2014: Check out all the Latino nominees!
Awards season doesn't start until next month, but the nominations are already rolling in! This morning, the nods for this year's Screen Actor's Guild awards were officially announced. But while I was thrilled to see casts from several of my favorite shows up for an ensemble award, I was also really shocked by some of the individual actors that were left off the list.
So who managed to make the cut? As they say during the ceremony, and the nominees are…

Modern Family, starring everyone's favorite funny Latina, Sofia Vergara, and her TV son, Rico Rodriguez, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. But I was really surprised to see that Vergara herself was snubbed for Oustanding Performance by a Female Actor. What's up with that?! Though she's never won the award in the past, she's been nominated several times and I thought for sure she would've made the cut again!
Still, she's not the only one who was snubbed. No other Latino actors, TV or film, were nominated individually for an award, although several others were nominated as part of an ensemble cast.
HBO's Boardwalk Empire, starring Bobby Cannavale, was nominated with the rest of the cast for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Definitely well-deserved ... that's an intense show!
As for movies, American Hustle, which features Latino actors Louis C.K. and Michael Pena alongside the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, No surprise there! The flick has already generated a ton of buzz, despite that it hasn't even hit theaters yet.
But it will be facing stiff competition against other critically acclaimed films, including Lee Daniels' The Butler, which co-stars Mariah Carey and is up for the same category. I wonder if this means Carey will be in attendance at the SAGs?!
Perhaps the biggest honor of the night will go to Puerto Rican singer and actress Rita Moreno. The 82-year-old is being recognized with the Screen Actors Guild 50th Annual Life Achievement Award this year. After decades in the industry and major awards in every entertainment category (including an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony award), I can't think of anyone more worthy of such an honor.
While I'm disappointed to see that some actors didn't garner a nomination, it's just as much of an honor to be nominated with your cast. And I guess with the level of quality in TV and film rising each and every year, the competition is only getting tougher. Still, I'm excited to see which of these talented ensembles will get to take home a prize next month!
