Jennifer Lopez is returning to 'American Idol'!
Jennifer Lopez is officially reclaiming her role as an American Idol judge this upcoming season, according to reports from Yahoo! and Deadline. Though rumors that Fox has been trying to woo Lopez back onto the show have been swirling ever since her departure in 2012, the singer recently reached a new deal with the network that will have her resuming her spot on the panel.
That definitely sounds like a good move to me! I always thought Lopez was a good fit for the show. Plus, I don't know about you, but I was sick to death of all the Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj drama last season.

According to Deadline, an official statement announcing Lopez's return is expected in the next week or two. The news comes just after the network confirmed that Keith Urban (who started the show with Lopez and stayed on after she and former judge Steven Tyler left) will also be returning. With the departure of longtime judge Randy Jackson last season, the third Idol judging seat is still open, although Will.i.am is reportedly set to take it.
Lopez will allegedly be earning a paycheck of around $15 million, which is in the ballpark of what both she and Carey had previously made on the show.
Personally, I think bringing Lopez back is the smartest move Idol execs have made in a while. Though bringing Carey and Minaj in the last competition seemed like a good idea in theory, it only proved to be disastrous for ratings, in large part because of their obvious dislike for each other. Meanwhile, Lopez was able to keep a professional and friendly relationship with all her former co-judges, as well as the contestants and I'm confident she'll be able to do the same again.
