'New Girl' recap: Schmidt & Jess get their groove back
Tonight brought the premiere of quite possibly the girliest night on TV, courtesy of FOX, and I have to say, I loved it! With the premiere of both New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel AND The Mindy Project there was basically no way to make me happier.
But we're here to talk about the hilarious New Girl, and we were treated not only to the season premiere but to a second episode that was WAY funnier than the first.
Everything kicks off--quite appropriately, I must admit--with Schmidt getting his penis cast removed, which you may remember, caused quite the fall out with Jess' beautiful BF Cece when he dumped in a wild fit of insecurity. So, did Schmidt manage to win Cece back?
Um, no way! Of course not, because he is a total spaz and his idea of celebrating being back in the game was to throw a "Danger" themed party at Nick's bar. Then he attempted to play with fire, which inevitably ended horribly!

Unfortunately, Jess also got laid off, which lead her down a rabbit hole of depression culminating in a hilarious tap dance on a table alongside the brilliant Parker Posey. At the start of the second episode, Jess has graduated to obsessively cooking and cleaning which Schmidt loves, but Nick finds totally creepy. In an effort to get her out of the house, Nick suggests Jess "go off the grid" which she takes an indication that she should just head to the bar and drink away her days.
What Jess doesn't know is that she is going through a phase where men seem to find her irresistibly attractive. Schmidt makes a hilarious joke about how every person goes through a phase where they just give off intense animal magnetism, which gets a good laugh--but hey, I TOTALLY agree with him! We all do go through phases where we just seem to be super attractive to the opposite sex. You know you've felt it too (wink, wink).
It all ends with Jess finding an ideal sex partner (Go Jess!) and Nick getting some insight from a homeless guy claiming to come from the future, who crazy or not, seems to give the bartender some sound advice.
All in all, it was a great return for one of the funniest, silliest sitcoms on TV. I love that they are letting Jess be super sexy this season so far! It was ludicrous trying to pretend like she was Cece's "ugly" friend. Now, we'll all just have to wait to see how long it take Jess and Nick to realize that they love each other and Cece to forgive Schmidt.
