'Glee' recap: Rachel's new teacher Kate Hudson butchers Spanish & dances to JLo (VIDEO)
The first episode of Glee begins with the big question: which of you is the new Rachel Berry (Lea Michele)? That's going to be the big question for the McKinley High School's New Directions in the fourth season of the hit show.
Of course, plenty of people are ready to step up to the plate: Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), Blaine (Darren Criss), Brittany (Heather Morris) and new addition Wade Adams (Alex Newell).
Meanwhile, the REAL Rachel is at college in New York City's NYADA and having BIG problems with her new dance teacher, Cassandra July (Kate Hudson).

In their competition to see who becomes the new Rachel, Tina, Blaine, Brittany and Wade sing "Call Me Maybe" for Artie (Kevin McHale) so that he can decide. That's not happening, though, and Schuester (Matthew Morrison) holds auditions anyway. Two outstanding performances are by Marley (Melissa Benoist), who sang "New York State of Mind", alongside splits with Rachel in New York, and Jake (Jacob Arist), who sang "Never Say Never".

Meanwhile, we get a few updates on the graduated seniors: Rachel hasn't heard from Finn (Cory Monteith), Santana (Naya Rivera) ended up going to college and is busy with cheerleading practice and Kurt is working at the coffee shop and reminding the Gleeks that they're all about accepting diversity. Though it looks like Kurt isn't sticking around much longer, since boyfriend Blaine told him he belongs in New York now and encouraged him to head off with "It's Time". As always, Kurt and his dad have a touching scene where Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley) proves he's like the BEST DAD EVER and sends him off with sweet encouragement.

Back in New York, Rachel meets her new love interest, Brody (Dean Geyer), and gossips about him on the phone with Kurt while sporting amazing new ombre hair that I am officially obsessed with. She's struggling in dance class, though, as teacher Cassandra seems to inexplicably have it in for her. Granted, it doesn't help that Rachel mouthed off about Ms. July's alcoholic breath. That's when Kate Hudson broke into song, singing a mash-up of Lady Gaga's "Americano" and Jennifer Lopez's "Dance Again". Normally, I'd be pretty happy about all this--except that she seriously had the WORST Spanish during the beginning of "Americano". That being said, the girl sure can dance! Maybe this means that JLo will also decide to guest star in the show? I mean, the two of them going at it on the dance floor would simply made my heart burst.

In the end, Marley joined the Gleeks and Wade "Unique" started dressing like he truly wants to (as her fabulous self), they got kicked out of the "popular" crowd by new head cheerleader Kitty (Becca Tobin). Meanwhile, Schuester offered a spot to Jake, who turned out to be Puck's younger brother that Puck (Mark Sallig) doesn't know about, but he turned it down--even as he stared longingly at Marley and the New Directions singing "Chasing Pavements"-- all while Rachel broke down on the phone to Kurt only to be greeted by new best friend in NYC to hugs all around. And thus begins a new season of GLEE!
