'Falling Skies' goes Mexican with up-and-coming star Seychelle Gabriel!
One of my favorite moments of TNT's Falling Skies was when Lourdes insists on being thankful for the things that her group of humans still had and the few victories they had achieved against the aliens that invaded the Earth.
I loved it even more, when I found out that Lourdes is a Mexican-American pre-med student played by a 21 year-old Latina actress: Seychelle Gabriel.
You may know her name if you saw The Last Airbender or watch Nickelodeon's The Legend of Korra. I didn't, but for sure I won't forget it now. Her role in Steven Spielberg's Falling Skies is expanding and she was an important part of last Sunday's season 2 premiere.
Lourdes is now chief medic Anne's (Moon Bloodgood) assistant. They had to operate on leading character Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) to save his life.
Seychelle is half-Brazilian and half-Mexican and grew up in Southern California around movie sets because her family liked sign up as extras in movies. She had her first role at three years old. If her Twitter feed is any indication, she LOVES fish tacos and indie productions. She has a great sense of humor and has hopes of complementing her acting with a music career.
I'm excited to see how her character develops in season 2. Seychelle has said that Lourdes will fall in love. The actress has also revealed that we will get to see more of Lourde's personality and the role that her Mexican culture plays in how she does things and how she sees life. I hope it brings some optimism to the dreary world of the second Massachusetts Militia Regiment. There is no doubt that a group of civilians and fighters fleeing post-apocalyptic Boston need some Latin flavor in their life.
