Latino filmmakers win big at Cannes Film Festival in France

Latino stars weren't the only ones making headlines at the Cannes International Film Festival, which officially ended last week.

While we got a little distracted by Eva Longoria's gorgeous dresseshair tips from a Latino stylist to the stars, and Salma Hayek's sultry smoky eye--the big news coming out of tje festival was the fact that three Latino filmmakers took home some ACTUAL high-profile awards from Cannes this year.

The three big Latino winners at Cannes were Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas, Mexican director Michel Franco and Chilean director Pablo Larrian. Carlos won the top directing award for his "experimental feature" Post Tenebras Lux, Michel's film Despues de Lucia was named best film of the Un Certain Regard section of the festival and Pablo won the top prize at the Directors Fortnight for his film No.

All of the films sound interesting, Post Tenebras Lux was described as a "complicated tale", Despues de Lucia "deals with a young woman and her father who move to a new town, leaving their old lives behind" and No is a "look at the referendum that ended Pinochet's reign in Chile".

No may actually be coming to U.S. cinemas after Sony Pictures Classics bought the North American rights to the film that stars Gael Garcia Bernal as an "ad man working on the campaign to persuade votes to give Pinochet a no vote".

As a big fan of Gael Garcia's acting (and his incredible hotness), I'm excited that I may soon be able to see a film that not only stars him but that also won a top honor at Cannes. In the meantime, though, I might just keep gushing over all of the gorgeous Latinas that wowed us on the red carpet.
