Dear 'American Idol': Jessica Sanchez needs to win this year, especially if J.Lo is leaving (VIDEOS)
We're down to our final 3 on American Idol! And 16-year-old half-Mexican contestant, Jessica Sanchez, is all set to take the win…at least according to judge Steven Tyler. On last night's episode, the three remaining singers had to sing three songs, one picked by the judges, one of their own picks, and one picked by the show's music mentor, Jimmy Iovine. It was a tough battle and Sanchez once again gave it her all, blowing the 3 judges away but particularly Tyler who predicted she would be this season's champ!
Sanchez performed the judge's song choice for her, "My All" by Mariah Carey as her first performance and though it wasn't my favorite performance of her songs, I have to admit her breathy tone and high notes were pretty darn impressive.
"With a Mariah song we tell people never to do it because it's like a lesson in the most difficult things to ever sing," Randy Jackson said. "But, you know what, I think it's one of the best times a Mariah song has ever been performed on TV."
But it was Tyler who gave Sanchez the ultimate compliment. "In a crazy kind of way, you'll be the last one standing here I believe," he said. "That was just so over the top, girl!"
Sanchez paid back Tyler's praise in her second performance, by taking on his band's beloved song "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". And this time, there was no denying it--she nailed it. In fact, Tyler gave her a standing ovation (um, is that freakin' awesome or what?!) and such an enthusiastic response that he took his fellow judge Jennifer Lopez by surprise.

"You don't know what a big deal that is. When people come up and sing his songs…I don't think he's ever said one good thing," said Lopez. "That was crazy…You did really great. That note at the end… wow. [It] sent everyone into the heavens."
For her third performance, Sanchez performed the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" ...and my heart totally skipped a beat from excitment. I love this song and I'm normally wary when other people perform it, but frankly, Sanchez sounded awesome."Perfect song, perfect voice," Tyler commented while Lopez said "she almost sounded like Michael coming out of the back there." Only Jackson had criticism to give her it was lacking "like a moment-moment-moment." Riiight…whatever that means.

All I can say is, Sanchez better win this thing! If the rumors of J.Lo leaving Idol next season because of an overpacked schedule are true (nooo!), what better way to end her time on the show than with a fellow Latina winning?
If Sanchez doesn't win and Lopez decides to leave, I'll be super disappointed. In fact, if that happens, my only hope is that viewers get to meet more Jessica Sanchez's in the future--hey, we need the strong Latina artists to spice up the show!
