One of the best things that happened last night during the Oscars was the launch of JCPenney's new ad campaign featuring Ellen DeGeneres. If you didn't get a chance to see the spots, check them out because they are very, very good.

I, for one, love Ellen. She's funny, likable, honest, smart, and relevant-- and the ads accomplish their goal, which is to help transform JCPenny's dated image. And for a store like JCPenney, change is certainly good.

But who would've guessed that there are One Million Moms in America that "want to build a moral society for their kids" and therefore, had been advocating a boycott of JCPenney for their choice of a Lesbian as spokesperson.

One Million Moms began contacting JC Penney after the store announced that comedian DeGeneres would become the company's new spokesperson. Before even seeing the ads, they declared

Funny that JCPenney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of its customers are traditional families. Unless JCPenney decides to be neutral in the culture war and listen to customers in a considerate fashion, their brand transformation will be unsuccessful

Give me a break One Million Moms, go shop elsewhere if you are offended.

After reading their mission and their call to action (which told their members to "ask the store to replace their spokesperson with someone who represents more their family values") I seriously believe that the group should change their name to "One Million Anti-Gay, Insane, Bored-Out-Of-Their-Minds Moms"

Not only that, but I wonder who would such a person be, who would want to represent these kind of "moral values"?

Ellen's response?

I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me. Here are the values I stand for: I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you'd want to be treated and helping those in need.

Those are the values that matter. So I have another question for One Million Moms: A million strong and not one of them has any Gay kids? Because if they don't, a big surprise awaits them. Some estimates say 1-in-10 adults are homosexual.

I would like to think that the world is evolving and that we're heading into a good direction. Call me an optimist but I actually believe that people nowadays have better criteria, especially in the land of the free and the home of the brave. But no… Every time I bump into people who promote this kind of hatred, I get insulted and depressed.

As a mother, no one, not one single Mom, should promote Anti-Gay movements. It is insane. If you believe you're doing right by your children, think again. There are still kids in America committing hate crimes. Just today a student shot up his Ohio school. We should do better.

We have to teach our kids to accept people as they are, to respect others and to have moral values that go beyond sexual preferences.

And believe me, I rather shop at JCPenney if Ellen DeGeneres does. I have a feeling that I'd rather dress like my gay friends than any of you "One Million Moms."

What did you think of the commercials?

libel...

I like Ellen, she is smart and funny.. but not sure about the commercials =(

and I also like JCpenney, I don't buy too often, but when I do it, is  a nice shopping experience.

Great article!!! Ellen is a wonderful role model and brings a lot of joy to many in the form of entertainment. As for the One Million Moms, way to go promoting hate and bigotry. Remember that till this present day, women themselves are still victims of hate so it's a shame that they're promoting the same thing only to a different demographic. Thanks Sofia!!!!
