Did you watch 'The River'?

'Cause I did, and let me tell you, it scared the bejesus out of me! I'm pretty much a sucker for any kind of paranormal storyline and over the last few years, I've really come to appreciate a good scare, so for me, this show was great! The River is the brainchild of Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli so I sort of knew it was going to be good, but it surpassed my expectations.

My favorite part of the show was the Latino mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and his daughter Jahel (Paulina Gaitan) and the fact that she exclusively spoke Spanish for the entire show--I loved it! I mean how many times do you see authentic Latino characters, speaking Spanish on a prime-time television show? Um, I can answer that for you: NEVER! Also, the premiere was shot in Puerto Rico so you know this Boricua was going to be partial.

The River is about a famed explorer and TV personality named Dr. Cole who travels deep in to the Amazon jungle in search of magic and mysteriously disappears. When his wife receives a signal from his emergency beacon six months after his disappearance, she convinces their reluctant son Lincoln and Dr. Cole's old crew to come together to try to find him and bring him back home.

This crew includes Cole's old and shady producer Clark, who agrees to come along only if they can shoot the search mission documentary style. Of course, once they get out on the Amazon, nothing is as it seems and the only one who really seems to pick up on this immediately is Latina (no surprise there!) Jahel. The show is a really cool mix of paranormal and supernatural horror with adventure and mystery, all in all, I'm hooked for now and am definitely planning on tuning in again next week. With the end of American Horror Story, I've been missing out on my weekly scare--but I'm pretty sure The River will have no problems providing it!
